Tai-Chi 4 Week Series with Jane Northey - Begins Wednesday, May 8th, 7:30 PM ~ Immerse yourself in this ancient oriental practice.
Tai-Chi 4 Week Series with Jane Northey
Begins Wednesday, May 8th
7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Immerse yourself in this ancient oriental practice.
Tai-Chi, as it is practiced in the west today, can best be thought of as a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. The objective of Tai-Chi is to expand one's vital energy (chi) and at the same time to open oneself to a spiritual dimension. The "chi" is a vital energy that is in us, around us, and is the origin of the universe.
Yang style Tai-Chi consists of a series of 108 movements always executed in the same sequence to calm the mind, allowing a sense of peace to be instilled as well as to stimulate a harmonious circulation of this chi, this energy, throughout the body. The 108 movements of Yang style Tai-Chi are conceived to clear the body's meridians. This stimulates the circulation of the vital energy in the body to nourish and stimulate the body's organs. Tai-Chi is relaxation in continual movements.
Tai-Chi is usually represented by the Yin-Yang symbol. Yang is the active element, and Yin the passive. For the Chinese, the balance of the world rests in harmonising these two polarities.
Cost: $60.00 per person for the 4 Week Series Drop-Ins are welcome for $20.00 per person.

Spirit of Karate with Sensei Rick ~ 8 week series beginning Wednesday, May 8th, 5:45 pm - 7:15 pm ~ Explore the warrior within!
Spirit of Karate
with Sensei Rick
8 week series beginning
Wednesday, May 8th
5:45 pm - 7:15 pm
What is the Spirit of Karate?
In today’s world most people don't see the connection between Spirituality and Martial Arts. In truth, Martial Arts is rooted in a very ancient spiritual practice. Many Human codes of conduct stem from Warrior traditions such as the Knightly Code of Chivalry or the Samurai Code of Bushido.
Spiritual Karate teaches us to explore the Warrior within, a human element we draw on daily with little or no understanding. Sensei Rick teaches the Art of the Warrior using the Body, Mind and Spirit.
Body: You will learn strikes, kicks, katas (a form of movement meditation) which students practice through sparring and strength building exercises.
Mind: Weekly open discussions of various philosophies from different points of view including:
- To fight or not to fight… that is the question!
- How far to go in a situation
- Various forms of Martial Arts
- Chivalry, Bushido
- Yamas and Nyamas
- The Noble Virtues
- Violence vs self defense
Spirit: As you unite the use of the body and mind with meditative breathing you will discover the Spiritual Warrior within.
The class format is meant to be light and fun as well as practical and informative.
Cost: $96.00 per person for the 8-week series, Drop-In for $15.00, or use your PranaShanti Class Card. All ages welcome.
About Rick: Rick Lutes received his black belt in a derivative of Shoto Kan Karate in 1990, and his second degree a year later. He has always been deeply interested in the defensive aspects of Karate. As a result, he takes a practical approach to teaching, focusing more on escapes from common grabs and effective strike points than typical 'fighting' techniques. "I believe people learn when having fun, so while the topic may be of a serious nature, we will have lots of fun learning it!"

Yoga Tune Up® is a head-to-toe health and fitness system combining Yoga, Calisthenics, Corrective Exercise and Body Therapy in a way that heals damaged muscle tissue, increases overall strength, and bolsters the immune system developed and created by internationally renowned yoga instructor, Jill Miller.
Its restorative techniques create balance and flexibility in the body, while relieving painful injuries, improving coordination, and reducing stress.
