2006 Winter Solstice Celebration

Happy Holidays!

This past week I attended the Kundalini Yoga Winter Solstice celebration in Florida. The camp and location were excellent, the food was fantastic and the people were the best. This year was one of the largest attendances they have had, about 550 people. There were lots of yoga workshops with long time teachers, 3 days of White Tantic yoga meditation and of course the Yogi Tea Cafe and Bazaar. Here's the link for more information www.3ho.org/events/yoga-retreat.html

One of the lessons that I came away with was from White Tantic facilitator Sat Simran Kaur. She explained that although not all of us have jobs that are directly spiritually uplifting or healing to people we can carry our spirituality with us into our work. I can relate to this because my main day job, when I'm not teaching yoga, doing Gong meditations or working on Divinity Body Care (www.divinitybodycare.com), is as a computer consultant. I've sometimes wondered if I should be doing more for society in a more direct way. But she reminded me that I am uplifting the people I meet on a daily basis where I work.

Sat Simran Kaur explained that it is important to keep up with Sadhana, yoga practice and mediations so that you can make the choices that you face with dignity, divinity and grace and be available for others. Bless all who you meet each day. Consciously bless them vocally or silently. See how your blessings and prayers work!

I highly recommend Winter Solstice. As one yogi friend said to me, it is the best Christmas present you can give yourself. I only just got home the other day but I'm already looking forward to Summer Solstice in New Mexico.

2006 Yoga Marathon for Amnesty International

What an amazing evening! I just came home from leading Kirtan at the 2006 Yoga Marathon for Amnesty International. This is an annual event and what a great cause!

From 6AM to 8PM there were yoga classes of all styles. People either drop in and make a donation or stay for the entire day with sponsors. They raised over $4,000 and 100% of the money they raised goes to Amnesty International (www.amnesty.ca). This is awesome!

A special thank you goes out to Tara Vicckies and Louise Mulvihill who put so much hard work into this event. They are two of the most dedicated souls I know and they give so much of themselves to make an event like this possible. They arranged for the yoga space (www.mountaingoatyoga.com) and for all the sponsors - and there were many covering all kinds of things such as food all day, bottled water, gift prizes and lots more donations.

Here's a couple more pictures of the Kirtan where I am playing the harmonium.

That's all for now!
