Yoga Nidra - Deep Relaxation with Devinder Kaur (Alison) ~ Every Wednesday at 7:30 PM for the Month of December ~ Yoga Nidra is a body-centered form of meditation that can be practiced for many reasons: to deeply relax and release stress; to promote healing of the body-mind and to rediscover a greater sense of wholeness and balance that is naturally ours.

Yoga Nidra - Deep Relaxation with Devinder Kaur (Alison)
Every Wednesday for the month of December
7:30 PM to 9:00 PM

“We use Yoga Nidra to investigate and go beyond our limiting beliefs and conditioning, so that we may live a contented life, free of conflict, anxiety, fear, dissatisfaction, and suffering. And in its ultimate form, we use Yoga Nidra to unravel the sacred mystery of life and reveal the secret of enlightenment.” — Richard Miller, Ph.D.

Yoga Nidra is a body-centered form of meditation that can be practiced for many reasons: to deeply relax and release stress; to promote healing of the body-mind and to rediscover a greater sense of wholeness and balance that is naturally ours.

This method of guided self-inquiry is usually practiced in a comfortable lying down position, in which participants are guided into the deepest levels of relaxation and meditation.

The practice of Yoga Nidra reveals our innate intelligence and inherent wisdom which burns away negative patterns of conditioning – thus creating the space for the spontaneous physical, psychological and interpersonal transformations that can occur as a result of this practice.

Yoga Nidra has helped countless people to release chronic patterns of stress, to boost immune systems and overall health, to sleep better, and to lead more contented lives.

Cost: Use your PranaShanti Class Card or Sign Up with a Drop-In Fee.

No yoga or meditation experience required.

Yoga for Sleep with Richard Hudspith
Saturday, November 27th
1:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Do you have trouble sleeping well at night?
Do you toss and turn and miss out on a sound sleep that you know would do wonders for your body?
Does your body feel stiff and sore because you are not getting the right amount of sleep and do your muscles feel tired because they work all day long and never get the chance to relax?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, let Richard guide you through this experiential workshop.

The focus will be, increasing body flexibility, enhancing the alignment of the spine and calming the nervous system before going to sleep. The yoga postures taught in this course will help reduce the discomfort of sore, tired and aching muscles and provide for a restful night of sleep. The added benefit of these postures is that you can use them in the morning to help energize the body. You will also learn what happens to your muscles when you become stressed and how to return to a relaxed state of body and mind.

Cost: $35.00 per person. Register early to ensure space.

About Richard:
Richard has been an educator for over 15 years and has been teaching yoga since 2007. He was introduced to yoga in Japan where he also studied Zen and Buddhist meditation. Richard has studied Hatha, Ashtanga, Yin, Iyengar and Somatic styles of yoga.

In Ottawa, Richard completed his Yoga Alliance Hatha Yoga Teacher Training and broadened his teaching through trainings with Eoin Finn, Paul Grilley, Rodney Yee, Ramanand Patel and Susan Randall. Also, Richard has a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (focusing on Sports Administration), a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Human Systems. He also has studied and practiced Somatic Experiencing, a modality for renegotiating and healing traumatic experiences in the body.

Journey Dance with Dodie Sobretodo
Friday, November 26
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Join Dodie Sobretodo for a fun, exhilarating evening of Journey Dance!

What is JourneyDance?  There is a universe of life dancing within each and every one of us. Each with our own rhythm, our own dance, and our own song. Stand firmly in the foundation of your own feet as we venture outwards in all directions, finding our rhythm with all things.

With the mother as the caretaker of our dance, we find the courage to let our guards down. The courage to yield. The freedom to be present in this moment and listen to our own inner voice. In grounded presence, we dance in community, finding that each person we encounter is sent as a teacher from beyond. Through improvised movement we ride our own creative wave in harmony with the dance around us.

Your journey will be gently guided, leaving each dancer the space to breathe, to simply be. Our dance is meditation in movement. A chance to play, a chance to pray. A chance to heal and reveal. Connect and respect. Sometimes pretty, sometimes gritty. A chance to practice the art of living consciously. Nothing fancy, nothing forced. One step in front of another. Our dance is accompanied by music of all kinds, with an emphasis on world beats.

We are all dancers, sharing the same dance floor of life, each offering our own unique and cherished gifts. This dance warmly welcomes all souls, with deep honour and respect for each and every person who graces us by their simple presence.

Cost: $15.00 per person.

Detox and Digestion with Thomasina Larkin ~ Saturday, November 13th, 2010 ~ 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM ~ learn more about how yoga poses and breath work help tone and purify the body from the inside out.

Detox and Digestion with Thomasina Larkin
Saturday, November 13th, 2010
1:00 PM - 3:30 PM
The first hour of this workshop will introduce the affects of toxins on our body’s various systems, with a particular focus on the digestive system.

We will briefly talk about how stress – as a toxicity in the mind – effects the nervous system and digestion; how certain foods can bring our bodies out of balance (looking at both Ayurvedic and macrobiotic schools of thought); and how toxins or blockages along traditional Chinese meridian lines in the body can create stagnation and deficiencies in our organs and mind.

The second half of the workshop will be a dynamic class (all levels are welcome) that will help improve sluggish digestion and get rid of toxins that have built up in organs, joints and mind.

Participants will learn more about how yoga poses and breath work help tone and purify the body from the inside out. Interesting factoids about the how the body works and how yoga keeps it running smoothly will be scattered throughout the class.

Cost: $25.00 per person.

Meditation Integral Satsang with Lynne Cardinal & Jurgen Portz ~ 6 Week Series, Tuesdays ~ November 9th to December 14th, 2010 ~ 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM ~ Suitable to both beginners and experienced meditators.

Meditation Integral Satsang
with Lynne Cardinal & Jurgen Portz
6 Week Series
Tuesdays ~ November 9th to December 14th, 2010
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Suitable to both beginners and experienced meditators.

Integral Satsang is a multi-faceted approach to spirituality and personal development offered in a group setting. Learn more about meditation, including various meditation and breathing exercises as well as tools to deepen your meditation and develop regularity in your practice.

The group classes are a catalyst for deepening your meditation experience. Meditation awakens us to our inner Essence or Peace, calms mental activity and provides us with greater focus. It results in an overall feeling of well-being and peace of mind. During the classes, we will practice breathing exercises which are an important component of the practice of meditation.

Breathing exercises affect the central nervous system, furthering the transformation to a more positive mind-frame enabling us to reach a subtler and deeper state of consciousness. In addition, we use Sanskrit chanting as a method to relax and to create a calm, meditative atmosphere.

Chanting has grown in popularity since it allows us to get in touch with ourselves, as the sounds are soothing and lead to meditation. The integral framework helps us to assimilate our meditation experience and encourages self-reflection regarding all aspects of our lives. This facilitates a holistic personal growth and development path. Participants are encouraged to engage in dialogue and to share their own innate wisdom with the group.

Cost: $90 per person for the 6 week course. Pre-registration required.  One time drop-ins are welcome to come and try the class for $20 per person.
