Girish in Concert!

Girish is an eclectic artist with roots in jazz, world, and sacred music. His musical talents find expression in a wide array of instruments – including tablas, world percussion, guitar, harmonium, and voice. Girish sings traditional Sanskrit mantras with a modern, funky, yet deeply devotional twist. Accompanied by his amazing band, Girish invites his audience to participate by singing along, call and response chanting, and dancing.

Girish's latest CD, which we will be hearing songs from at the Concert, "Diamonds in the Sun" is a monumental offering of transcendent melodies and earthy grooves, Girish joins his lush, soulful vocals with a global cast of award winning musicians. Sanskrit chants and English lyrics weave with instrumentation from Portland to Pakistan in a fresh, eclectic blend that is by turns intimate, peaceful, and inspiring, and then vibrant, passionate, and playful. A welcome reminder that just below the surface of who we think we are, we all are "Diamonds in The Sun". The CD features special guest vocalists Donna Delory, C.C. White, & Riffat Sultana.

Girish's chanting immersion is for anyone seeking to bring the bliss of Sanskrit chanting into daily life or to deepen an existing chanting practice. You'll explore several of the most powerful Sanskrit mantras and offer practical guidance on integrating them into your yoga, meditation, or pranayama practice.

Girish's chant workshop will cover:

  • The tradition of Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of Devotion);
  • The sacred power of Sanskrit;
  • The Gayatri Mantra;
  • Chants to the Goddess;
  • Bija Mantras (mystical seed sounds);
  • The Hanuman Chalisa;
  • Meaning, pronunciation, and yogic application of all the chants; and
  • Resources for further study and inspiration.

Come enjoy an afternoon creating an amazing vision board - unique to YOU!


We will do a little yoga and then we get creative! You will learn how yoga and meditation can help you get clear on what you really want in your life! We will listen to great music, have some yummy food and create a board that will inspire you the whole year through. Let's face it, teens have hectic lives and this workshop will give you a chance to chill out, have some fun and feel great all in the relaxing atmosphere of the PranaShanti Yoga Centre.

What You Need: Comfy clothes, yoga mat, water, any magazines you have that inspire you and/or pictures/objects you want to add to your vision board.

Yoga - a gentle class that will give you a good stretch and show you some things you can do on your own to help you in your life like dealing with stress, sports, dance, or even getting a better sleep.

Meditation - not all meditation is sitting still and trying to completely quiet your mind - together we will explore a few different styles.

Vision Board - this is a fun tool we create to inspire us to work towards our dreams. If you know what University or College you want to go to, bring a picture of it. If you want to travel, add pictures of places you want to go. If you want to be a rock star, bring pictures of your favorite artist that inspires you....it is your vision and your dreams!

Scissors, glue, boards and all other crafty things will be supplied for you.

Yoga for Stress Management with Richard Hudspith - 4 Week Series Beginning Saturday, March 5th, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM ~ This experientially based course that provide you with an opportunity to learn what causes stress, what happens to the body when it becomes stressed and most importantly, provides a system that you can use to regulate your stress level.

Join Richard on four Saturdays in March from 1:30 - 3:30 PM to explore stress, how it affects your life and learn ways you improve the negative impacts.
This experientially based course that provide you with an opportunity to learn what causes stress, what happens to the body when it becomes stressed and most importantly, provides a system that you can use to regulate your stress level.

Once learned this system can be used to help reduce body pain, lengthen sore and stiff muscles and bring an overall feeling of well being to the body. The stress management system incorporates the science of yoga and breath.

Over the 4-week course, students will practice Somayog along with various breathing techniques as part of the stress management system. Ample time will be allocated for students to practice the moves of Somayog so that over time they become second nature.

Classes will be made up of segments including lecture, group discussion, group participation, journaling and the practice of breath work and yoga. Each class will include a segment on Somayog where students will repeat the previous week’s movements to ensure comprehension and then the next phase of the practice will be introduced.

Cost: $250.00 per person.

Fee includes 4 Saturday workshops (March 5, 12, 19 & 26) from 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM, a 5 Class Package at PranaShanti, and the book: Somatics: Reawakening The Mind's Control Of Movement, Flexibility, And Health by Thomas Hanna.

If you want to learn how to safely get into Headstand, or if you can do the basic pose and want to learn some variations, this workshop is for you. Join PranaShanti teacher David Wegenast to explore:
  • Warmups and strengtheners for headstand
  • Alignment guidelines with a wall and without
  • Methods of going up and coming down with control
  • Headstand variations to stretch and strengthen your core
  • Safely assisting a partner
  • The many benefits of Headstand

Depending on students' interests and aptitude, we can also explore Handstand, Forearm Balance, and other inverted variations.  If you are a Yoga teacher, this workshop will demonstrate how to safely teach Headstand to your students.

Feel like you need to learn a little more about the poses you practice? Not sure if you are doing them right? Taught with simplicity and humour, these asana (posture) clinics will bring you a deeper understanding for some of the basic yoga postures and will bring your practice to another level. Yoga is the union of mind, body, and spirit and being comfortable in asanas (postures) facilitates that union.

Focus will be placed on alignment, safe adjustments to ease or deepen a pose, and use of props where necessary to avoid injuries. Poses included in the clinic are poses that are frequently seen in Hatha classes including Yoga Basics, Power, Hot Yoga, and Yin. Time will be provided for questions.

Dates and Focus:

Shoulders and Arms – February 19, 2011 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Learn to open the shoulders and strengthen the arms. Poses will include arm balances. A great clinic for golfers, baseball players, or anyone working in an office.

Sun Salutations – March 26, 2011 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Learn to move with ease and comfort through the classic and modified versions of sun salutations; realizing numerous health benefits from practicing just one series! Get ready for the Sun Salutation Mala for Spring Equinox!

This one hour movement meditation will involve two distinct body centered practices created by Osho, the Sufi Mystic.

There will be four phases to this meditation. The first 3 phases will be accompanied by music and the last phase will be without music.

During the first phase, partipants will be asked to use shaking as a way of “emptying out” or letting go of any unwanted or accumulated stress, tension and negative energy. In this phase one ”becomes the shaking” instead of “doing the shaking”.

In the second and third phases, participants will use “gibberish” in combination with dance to get rid of the active mind...enabling one to enter the transcendental. The final phase will involve sitting in silence to experience the benefits of silent awareness, emotional release and increased vitality.

Participants will be encouraged to participate to their fullest but will be respected for whatever level of exertion they are capable of.

About your instructor Jack Lafleur M.A:  As a long time spiritual seeker, teacher and meditator, it has been one of Jack's greatest joys and passions to assist others on their path to spiritual awakening and freedom. Trained and mentored over the last ten years by a sannaysin of Osho, Jack also brings a great deal of experience, power and presence to helping others awaken to their essential nature through various forms of meditations and transformational processes. Jack is also known for his fearlessness in getting others to reach their potential and his gentleness when creating an environment of safety where people can both explore and transcend the self.
